Howard & Helen
Howard and Helen have over two decades of experience in the care industry between them, and both leapt at the chance to become activity coordinators at Staveley House. They were both already known and loved by the residents, having worked as carers here before branching out into wellbeing.
They implemented great changes when they started; updating and refining the activities programs, organising engaging outside entertainers like the Wreay Sykes Alpacas and the ever-favourite Dance Recall, and branching out into crafts and the hotly contested carpet bowls championships - a real favourite among residents.
They hold monthly meetings with the residents for feedback on activities to ensure that their planned activities are a reflection of the residents' own personalities and passions; whether that’s a visit from an opera singer, more Bingo sessions, cutthroat games of dominoes or pamper sessions.
Our wellbeing team carefully research resources and tailor each session to accommodate the varying levels of mobility and cognitive ability our residents live with.
Activities Team
Howard and Helen organised our recent garden fete to celebrate Abbeyfield’s 70th Birthday and Staveley House’s 30th Birthday with all the fun of the fair including circus performers and performances by Dalton Town Band.

“Every day presents a new challenge for us, whether it is finding the right instructor for a seated exercise class or sourcing specific materials for a new craft project, but the feedback we receive—the smiles, the shared laughter, and the renewed sense of community—confirms that we are exactly where we need to be.
We remain committed to evolving alongside our residents, constantly changing our activities to ensure that life within Staveley House is as vibrant and fulfilling as possible. It is no longer just about filling time; it is about creating meaningful moments that foster a sense of purpose.”
